Early Morning: Wild Takhi Horses at Khustai
After an early breakfast, head into Khustai National Park for one of the highlights of the journey — an opportunity to see the Przewalski's horse (Takhi), the world's last truly wild horse species.
We drive through the park's open valleys and rolling hills, where herds of Takhi can often be observed in their natural environment. The exact location and viewing conditions depend on the animals' movements.
Late Morning: Journey to Kharkhorin
After exploring Khustai, continue west toward Kharkhorin, the historic capital of the Mongol Empire.
The journey crosses the vast landscapes of central Mongolia, providing opportunities to see traditional pastoral life and herds grazing across the steppe.
Midday: Lunch at Elsen Tasarkhai
Stop at Elsen Tasarkhai for lunch and a short break. This unique landscape combines golden sand dunes with surrounding grasslands and rocky steppe.
After lunch, continue to Kharkhorin to explore one of the most important historical sites in Mongolia.
Afternoon: Kharkhorin & Erdene Zuu Monastery
Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, one of the oldest surviving Buddhist monasteries in Mongolia, built near the site of the ancient Mongol capital.
Explore the monastery complex and learn about the history of Karakorum, the political and cultural center of the Mongol Empire in the 13th century.
Depending on the opening hours and available time, there may also be an opportunity to visit the Karakorum Museum, which houses archaeological discoveries from the ancient capital.
Late Afternoon: Return to Elsen Tasarkhai
After exploring Kharkhorin, drive back toward Elsen Tasarkhai and check in to your ger camp.
Evening: Bactrian Camel Ride at Sunset
As the evening light softens over the dunes, experience a guided ride on a Bactrian camel through the golden sand dunes.
The sunset over Elsen Tasarkhai provides an excellent opportunity for photography and a peaceful end to the day.
Return to the ger camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Overnight: Ger Camp at Elsen Tasarkhai
Note: The exact timing of the Takhi viewing, Kharkhorin visits and camel ride may be adjusted according to road conditions, park regulations, opening hours and sunset time.
