Under the right conditions, the movement of the sand can create the distinctive low humming sound that gives Khongoryn Els its name — the Singing Dunes.

4. Ikh Gazryn Chuluu — Granite Wilderness

Upon arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN), our professional team will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Ulaanbaatar.
After check-in, take some time to refresh and relax after your international flight.

Morning: Flight to Western Mongolia
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Ölgii, the capital of Bayan-Ölgii Province in western Mongolia.
The flight takes approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. As you fly westward, the landscape gradually changes from Mongolia's central steppe to the dramatic mountain scenery of the Altai.
Upon arrival, our local team will welcome you at Ölgii Airport.
Midday: Discover Ölgii
Visit the Bayan-Ölgii Provincial Museum to learn about the region's unique history and the cultural heritage of the Kazakh people.
Continue to the local bazaar, where you can discover traditional crafts, felt products, local foods and other regional specialties.

Morning: Into the Altai
After breakfast in Ölgii, we depart by 4WD vehicle and journey into the rugged landscapes of the Altai Mountains.
The route takes us through wide valleys and mountain landscapes where Kazakh nomadic families have lived and practiced their traditions for generations.
Midday: Welcome by a Kazakh Eagle Hunter
Arrive at a local Kazakh eagle hunter's family home and experience genuine nomadic hospitality.
You will be welcomed with traditional Kazakh tea and baursak, a popular fried bread traditionally served to guests.
This is a real family setting rather than a staged tourist camp, offering an authentic introduction to the daily life and traditions of the Kazakh nomads.
Afternoon: The Art of Eagle Hunting
Meet the family's Golden Eagle and learn about the remarkable relationship between the eagle and its hunter.
Your host will explain how the birds are traditionally cared for, trained and prepared for hunting, as well as the handmade leather equipment used by eagle hunters.
Under the guidance of the experienced hunter, guests may have the opportunity to hold the eagle and take photographs.
Evening: Nomadic Dinner & Altai Night
Share a traditional dinner with the host family and learn more about their way of life and the centuries-old tradition of eagle hunting.

Morning: Golden Eagle Hunting Demonstration
After breakfast, join your host for a traditional Golden Eagle hunting demonstration in the surrounding Altai landscape.
Watch the eagle hunter demonstrate the remarkable partnership between hunter and bird, including traditional calling and flight techniques.
This is also an excellent opportunity to photograph the eagle and learn more about the centuries-old Kazakh tradition of eagle hunting.
Midday: Nomadic Hospitality
Return to the family for lunch and enjoy more time with your hosts.
Depending on the family's daily activities and the season, you may have the opportunity to experience aspects of traditional nomadic life, such as helping with livestock or learning about traditional Kazakh crafts and embroidery.
Afternoon: Horseback Riding in the Altai
After saying goodbye to your hosts, continue to a scenic area for a guided horseback ride through the surrounding valleys.
Ride at a relaxed pace and enjoy views of the Altai Mountains and open valleys. The route is suitable for beginner riders, with local horse guides accompanying the group.
Evening: Return to Ölgii
Drive back to Ölgii and check in to your hotel.

Morning: From Granite to the Gobi
After breakfast at Baga Gazryn Chuluu, continue south toward Tsagaan Suvarga (White Stupa).
As we travel deeper into the Gobi, the landscape gradually changes from granite formations and open steppe to vast arid plains and colorful sedimentary cliffs.
Midday: Arrive at Tsagaan Suvarga
Arrive at the spectacular Tsagaan Suvarga, a dramatic formation created by ancient marine sediments over millions of years.
Enjoy a picnic lunch prepared by our expedition chef while taking in the vast landscape surrounding the cliffs.
Afternoon: Explore the White Stupa
Explore the area on foot and follow the trails along the edge of the striking cliffs.
The layers of limestone and sedimentary rock create shades of white, cream, pink and orange, making Tsagaan Suvarga one of the Gobi's most impressive natural landscapes.
For those who wish to explore further, descend into the surrounding dry canyons and discover the geological formations from below.

Arrive in Dalanzadgad and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
Depending on the day's schedule, visit the South Gobi Museum to learn about the region's wildlife, geology, culture and famous dinosaur discoveries.
Afternoon: Explore Yolyn Am
Continue into Gurvan Saikhan National Park and visit Yolyn Am (Vulture Valley), a spectacular narrow gorge surrounded by the mountains of the Gobi.
Enjoy a moderate hike through the valley and look for wildlife such as Siberian ibex and argali sheep, while birds of prey can often be seen above the cliffs.
The deepest sections of the gorge may retain ice even during summer, depending on seasonal weather conditions.

Afternoon: Bactrian Camel Experience
Meet the traditional Bactrian camels of the Gobi and enjoy a guided camel ride along the base of the dunes.
These two-humped camels have been an important part of nomadic life in the Gobi for generations.
The ride provides a relaxed way to experience the desert landscape and enjoy the surrounding scenery.
Late Afternoon: Climb the Singing Dunes
For those who wish to explore on foot, hike up the sand dunes and enjoy panoramic views across the Gobi.
When conditions are right, the movement of the sand can produce the characteristic low humming sound that gives Khongoryn Els its name, the Singing Dunes.
The descent from the dunes is a memorable way to finish the day as the light changes across the desert.

Afternoon: Explore the Flaming Cliffs
Walk among the striking red and orange sandstone formations of the Flaming Cliffs.
Bayanzag became internationally famous for the important dinosaur fossils discovered here during the Central Asiatic Expeditions led by Roy Chapman Andrews in the 1920s.
The area is associated with discoveries of dinosaur fossils and eggs, making it an exceptional destination for anyone interested in prehistoric life and paleontology.

After breakfast, leave Ikh Gazryn Chuluu and begin the final journey toward Ulaanbaatar.

Midday: Across the Central Steppe
Take a break along the way and enjoy lunch during the journey.
This is an opportunity to look back on the diverse landscapes and experiences of the expedition—from the Kazakh eagle hunters of the Altai to the Gobi's singing dunes, dinosaur landscapes and granite formations of central Mongolia.
Afternoon: Return to Ulaanbaatar
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and check in to your 4–5 star hotel.
Take time to rest, refresh and enjoy the comforts of the city after several days of travel through remote regions.
If time permits, enjoy some last-minute shopping, including Mongolia's famous cashmere products.
Evening: Farewell Dinner
Gather for a farewell dinner at a carefully selected restaurant in Ulaanbaatar.
Celebrate the journey, share photographs and stories from the expedition, and enjoy one final evening together in Mongolia.
