Meals During Trekking and Mountaineering Trips

Meals During Trekking and Mountaineering Trips

During the trip, food items are packed in boxes and transported, with loading and unloading occurring multiple times a day. Depending on the nature of the trip, luggage may also be carried by camels or horses. Generally, there is a high likelihood of the luggage being compressed or crushed. In trips where horses or camels are used to transport loads, all preparations are made to minimize the burden on the animals and keep the luggage as light as possible.

Meal Tents:
Typically, two large tents are used during the trip. One is for the travelers to eat in, and the other serves as a kitchen tent for food preparation.

Types of Food:

  • Dried/Dry Foods: Lightweight and resistant to spoilage, making them the most common choice for camping. Examples: dried fruits, nuts, dried meat (jerky), Mongolian-style prepared meat (shuuz).
  • Instant Foods: Convenient as they can be prepared easily with hot water. Examples: cup noodles, mashed potato powder, oatmeal.
  • Canned Goods: Long-lasting but heavy. Examples: canned fish, beans, tushonka (canned meat).
  • Energy Foods: Provide quick energy boosts. Examples: chocolate, energy bars, glucose candies.
  • Vegetables: Carrots, potatoes, onions, salad leaves, tomatoes, daikon, garlic stems, cucumbers, bell peppers.
  • Meat: Beef, lamb, chicken.
  • Grains: White rice, millet, noodles, udon, yakisoba, flour.
  • Cuisine: A mix of Mongolian, Japanese, Russian, and Kazakh dishes is prepared.
