Karakorum Overview

Near Karakorum, you can explore the ruins of Karakorum, the great capital of the Mongol Empire established by Ogedei Khan. Additionally, the Erdene Zuu Monastery is located in this area. The ancient Mongol capital of Kharkhorum, also known as Karakorum, continues to attract the attention of experts. During its 32 years as the capital of the Mongol Empire, the city was divided into two main districts: the Saracen (Islamic) market area and the Chinese district with numerous streets and artisans. In addition to these two districts, there were twelve churches representing various ethnicities and religions.

Highlights

Visit Karakorum, the center of the world in the 13th century, and the Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s oldest temple, to experience Mongolia’s distant history. Enjoy traditional Mongolian cuisine while riding camels across the sand dunes and immersing yourself in the nomadic culture and lifestyle. Stay in a traditional ger (yurt), the mobile home of Mongolian nomads, and fully savor the charm of Mongolia.
