Asralt Khairkhan: The High Peak of the Khan Khentii (2,799m)
The Ultimate Winter Challenge & Summer Wilderness Trek
Asralt Khairkhan is the highest point of the Khan Khentii Mountain Range. While it stands at 2,799 meters, its proximity to Ulaanbaatar (100km) belies its true difficulty. It is a peak that demands respect, stamina, and a spirit for adventure.
The Winter Expedition: A Rite of Passage
In Mongolia, winter is the peak season for Asralt Khairkhan. When the marshes and rivers freeze, the mountain becomes accessible to those brave enough to face the cold.
-
The Legend: A Mongolian saying goes: "While a mother fulfills all of her child’s wishes, Asralt Peak grants three wishes that even a mother cannot fulfill." Many climb this peak with deep personal intentions.
-
The Challenge: This is not a hike; it is an endurance test. The journey often begins in the middle of the night (departing Ulaanbaatar at 03:00 AM) to reach the Base Camp by dawn.
-
The Climb: After navigating a snowy forest, you will break the tree line and face fierce winds. The ascent features two grueling steep sections, each taking about 1–1.5 hours. There are no shelters—only the pristine, frozen wilderness.
The Summer Trek: Untouched Nature
During the warmer months, the landscape transforms into a lush, marshy wilderness that vehicles cannot navigate.
-
Trekking & Riding: In summer, we trade our 4x4s for horses. A 4 to 5-day journey allows you to experience the Khan Khentii at a relaxed pace.
-
Wild Camping: With no nomadic families or settlements on this route, you are in total solitude. Mongolian Mountain Summit provides horse-supported logistics, where horses carry your gear while you trek through river crossings and alpine meadows.
